Strand Golf Resort Renovation

Strand Golf Resort located near Eskilstuna in Sörmland, was taken over by new ownership in February 2017. Since then, the new Strand Golf management team has made the decision to develop the properties 18 hole golf course in an effort to improve the course to a standard that matches the level of its hotel and restaurant, with the view of transforming Strand into one of Sweden’s leading golf package destinations and an exceptional golf facility for its members.

Leading Swedish golf course architect Johan Benestam of Benestam Golf Design, best known for his highly regarded work at Royal Drottingholm in Stockholm, has been selected as the architect and trusted with the responsibility of overseeing the transformation.

Nick Potter, Strands General Manager said “ We are really excited to partner with Johan, his ability and reputation to successfully integrate the golf course development with the existing landscape and the creativity he has demonstrated through his previous work made it an easy choice when selecting an architect. Johan has shown a real understanding not only towards our brief, though future factors such as the ability to successfully maintain the course both to a high standard and within budget.”

The primary focus of the renovation will be to re-build the courses green complexes and develop a long term bunkering plan. The renovation will also include drainage improvements throughout the course and the re-surfacing of the tee areas.

This will be the first renovation Strand Golf has undertaken since the course was built between 1999-2003. The courses original architect and current club pro, Janne Kjellwall is excited about the forthcoming change saying “ I am really excited about the planned development. Strand is close to my heart as the original architect and club pro. I can see the new direction we are moving as a club and having the chance to have Johan Benestam come on board will take the club and especially the course, to another level. Its an exciting time to be involved at Strand.”

Benestam will use 2018 to monitor the course and develop Strands master plan, with the goal to have all planning finalized by mid 2019 and construction to start the same year. The course is planned to stay open for the majority of the construction phase, with a 5 year time frame outlined for its completion.

Johan Benestam is excited about the challenge of overseeing Strand Golf’s transformation saying “The course has huge potential with such a lovely setting so close to the lake Mälaren. The landscape is adorable and features many mature Oak trees. The course has interesting elevation changes, which will help create a magnificent golf experience for members and guests.

I am really excited and looking forward to developing the course and working with the team at Strand.”
